My work starts from an image or an instance in my world. I dig into these images and instances that have become like photos in my mind, constantly reappearing, demanding to be included. I have borrowed heavily from my memories of childhood for these drawings: the bright off-putting colors from The Simpsons, the melancholic, apathetic Peanut's comic strips, my childhood home in Vancouver. Nostalgic and intuitive, my work uses bold colors and insistent visual language, borrowing from an adolescent spirit that becomes a sophisticated painting. My art borrows from this 'everyday imagery', but is changed through the filter of my childlike world. I hope the viewer experiences these works open-ended narratives and reach their own conclusion by continued patient observation.
